Ghoha Hills Savuti Lodge
Lodge style Safaris at a higher level
Unspoilt African luxury
Perched high on the granite hillside – or a ‘koppie’ in South African -, overlooking the Savute area of the western Chobe National Park, Ghoha Hills Savuti Lodge commands panoramic vistas over pristine surrounds. Rough-hewn ground and rocky pathways come from being the only Savute lodge to claim an elevated position (do note this can be of concern if you have mobility challenges). And here, you don’t even have to go out to see wildlife: stunning views and a wide range of animals can be spotted from the main area or from your own private deck. Settle down in this tranquil coloured lodge, decorated with soft lounge chairs and natural materials, and take full advantage of the location. While you let tranquillity take over, Abram, Nanette and their staff embrace you with warm African hospitality and true pampering. All coming from surrounding villages, they know this area like the back of their hand. The professionally trained guides and trackers take you daily on a discovery, sharing secret routes with you. Whether you feel like venturing out early in the morning, or taking it slow by going for a late morning game drive after a lazy breakfast; at Ghoha Hills Savuti Lodge you can do it all at your own pace.
Constructed on wooden platforms, eleven luxurious tented suites (two of which are for families) are canvas with teak floors and attractive appointments. All tents have en suite facilities and views can be enjoyed even from the shower. Fluffy towels, oversized pillows, eco-friendly guest amenities: your suite is a personal spa retreat. Do remember this is an eco-lodge; no plugs or Wi-Fi in the room. No need for it anyway, just sit on your private deck and gaze at elephants and giraffes passing by on their way to the waterhole. And don’t forget to visit the secret nook, named the ‘hide’: a beautiful deck overlooking the waterhole and an active place for animals of every shape and size! The main lodge boasts comfortable spaces to soak up the unique ambiance and enjoy delectable wholesome meals. Cool off in the pool on warm summer days, while gazing out over the scenery, and after exciting game drives, socialise around a fire in the boma. Hosts Abram and Nanette love to share bush tales and explain more about their Botswana lifestyle.
Activities at Ghoha Hills Savuti Lodge
On arrival, usually around midday or later in the afternoon, the smell of fresh pastries and cookies welcomes you. After high-tea, you meet your guide and, if preferred, he will take you on an afternoon drive during sunset, straight away. Discover a landscape full of elephants, antelope, giraffes, buffaloes… just to name a few. This will end at the scenic Baobab site with breathtaking views and delicious sun-downers. Cheers to your first safari day! If you feel like relaxing more in the private thatched viewing deck, just kickback and gaze at the waterhole. From this elevated setting you can view the arrival and movement of a wide variety of game, quenching their thirst in the water pan. You might also spot the Ghoha pride of lions that roam mainly between the lodge and this waterhole, as well as the spotted and brown hyena. If you can’t get enough of safari activities, a full day safari is offered for those who stay two nights or longer; a day packed with game such as kudu, impala, lions, cheetah, elephants, giraffes, birds and many more. Your guide will spot every gem along the way and explain all about Bushmen traditions. Of course, lunch on a riverbank cannot be skipped. By the time you return to the camp, a crackling fire is blazing and you realise it was just another perfect day.
Tripadvisor comments Ghoha Hills Savuti Lodge
The Ghoha Hills lodge was the highlight of our trip to Botswana. Besides a wonderful view into the valley and the participation in excellent safaris the personal leading of the lodge by Abram and Nanette with their lovely staff made our stay to an outstanding experience. We had a pleasant home in the bush! The interior of Ghoha Hills was very tasteful.
